Thanks for linking to these, Peter. I’ll try to check them out when I have some more time.

Do you know why DM has been putting up videos on Vimeo instead of other video sites? I imagine there’s some advantage if you decided to go that way, but I don’t know a ton of people/organizations using that site.

The primary reason we chose Vimeo over YouTube was that Vimeo offers more control over how and where videos appear. Specifically, Vimeo lets you restrict embedding of a video to a given domain. It even lets you turn off the viewing of a video on Vimeo itself. This doesn’t come into play for videos that are meant for public consumption like the ones we’ve included here. It’s quite useful, however, for video that’s meant for an internal audience (e.g. teaching at our staff conferences). YouTube didn’t have a good way to do that.

Thanks for explaining that, Brian. That’s really helpful information, and the private/public granularity really makes a lot of sense. I’ve know at least one other person who’s told me of issues stemming from YouTube’s treatment of private-vs-public videos.
