7 Reasons to Study Revelation

March 29, 2023 By Peter Krol

Nancy Guthrie wants you and me to study the book of Revelation. She writes:

Let’s be honest: Revelation can be an intimidating book. Because of that, some of us have avoided Revelation, deeming it to be too difficult to interpret and understand, too controversial, or too scary. Perhaps we’ve ignored it because we have assumed the book is only about the future, with nothing “practical” for us today.

The truth is, while the apocalyptic prophecy of Revelation presents some challenges to us as modern readers, it also provides gifts of insight and understanding to those who are willing to engage with it. Revelation is a letter written to gird us for faithful allegiance to Christ as we wait for his return. And that is encouragement we all need!

The she proceeds to offer 7 reasons this book is worth studying.

  1. Revelation is a message from God sent to us.
  2. Revelation opens our eyes to see the risen and glorified Christ.
  3. Revelation provides a picture of Jesus’s presence with us.
  4. Revelation enables us to see this world from heaven’s perspective.
  5. Revelation assures us that God will deal with the evil in this world.
  6. Revelation shows us what our eternal future will be like.
  7. Revelation promises blessedness.

I encourage you to consider what she has to say. Check it out!

7 Ways to Grow in Studying and Teaching Scripture Without Seminary

June 22, 2016 By Peter Krol

Nancy Guthrie has some really good advice for anyone and everyone who wants to grow at studying and teaching Scripture. She frames her article as 7 ideas for women, but anyone who cares to improve should consider these things:

  1. Keep your passionate heart and inquiring mind engaged with your Bible.
  2. Read some books about interpreting and communicating the Scriptures.
  3. Spend some time studying the geography of the Bible.
  4. Study sound teachers.
  5. Seek out mentors as well as companions for the journey.
  6. Seek feedback on your teaching or leading.
  7. Consider taking online courses from a trusted source.

We neglect such practices to our peril. Even if you’ve been to seminary, your need for growth has not yet come to an end. For more explanation, check it out!

Help With Teaching Through a Book

March 9, 2016 By Peter Krol

I’ve been digging a podcast from The Gospel Coalition called “Help Me Teach the Bible.” In this podcast, Nancy Guthrie interviews proven Bible teachers who have expertise in a particular book of the Bible. The interview’s goal is to help other Bible teachers to teach through that book.

Because each podcast episode typically focuses on one book of the Bible, you don’t have to listen to every episode to find something you want to hear about. I’ve been jumping around, listening to episodes on books I’m studying: Mark, Ephesians, Daniel, Job.

I’ve been impressed, and I’ll be checking this resource when I get ready to study a new book of the Bible.

Check it out!
